I was just pinteresting and noticed someone pinned a picture of this dazzling edifice designed by Frank Gehry in collaboration with everybody's favorite Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić (I have his poster up in my room). Like many thoughtful Pinterest users they described it perfectly - "some funky building..." Now you can all see why I am awake and 10pm writing blog post about a dancing building -- it's not JUST because all of the cool kids are doing it. pfff
The Nationale-Nederlanden is more than just some funky building...
"Originally named Fred and Ginger (after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers – the house resembles a pair of dancers) the house stands out among the Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings for which Prague is famous. Others have nicknamed it "Drunk House". (wikipedia.comhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_House)
Like the majority of Gehry's work there's a lot to appreciate within every square foot & from many vantage points. And as you can see I really enjoyed getting the chance to go right up under poor Ginger's skirt to get the sense of line and movement -- TWIRLY!
|I was trying to frame the style of the adjacent building withing the context of Gehry's -- it's quite the contrast|
